The surgery varies in range from minimally invasive ‘lunchtime lifts’ to more extensive, sophisticated surgery. A facelift removes excess skin, tightens underlying tissues and muscle and redrapes skin on the face and neck. It can correct midface sagging, marionette lines, jowls and a double chin, maintaining its reputation as the ‘gold standard’ for facial rejuvenation. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful facelift surgery and are pleased with the results.
When to Consider a Facelift
If you feel that your face does not reflect your youthful spirit and energy level.
If you determine that your facial sagging and excess skin is a social or career obstacle.
If you show signs of facial aging but still have some skin elasticity.
One day you look in the mirror and realize that time, gravity, sun exposure and heredity have taken a toll and you simply do not look like yourself any more.
Face Lift Procedure
A rhytidectomy is frequently performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), forehead lift, chin augmentation, and / or liposuction, to create an overall rejuvenation of the face. The procedure can be repeated as gravity continues its effects after the first surgery.
Facial rejuvenation surgeries are performed in inpatient surgical centers. General anesthesia is generally not required but can be used if desired for long procedures to help you relax and get a better result.
The surgeon will make incisions inside the hairline at the temple, in front of the ear, then around the earlobe and behind the ear, ending at the scalp area. Excess skin is removed and sagging connective tissues and muscles are tightened. In some cases, fatty deposits are removed from beneath the chin and neck. Incisions are closed with small sutures.
The procedure may take up to 2 - 4 hours depending on whether any other procedures are performed at the same time.
Recovering after Facelift Surgery Facelift is very satisfying procedure to most patients. It achieves a youthful appearance in all the patients which lasts approximately 10 years. The surgery is performed in an outpatient setting. Pain and discomfort after surgery are minimal. Once the dressings are removed after approximately 3-5 days, the patient can resume social activities using makeup to cover bruising and hair over the ears to hide the sutures.
